Laser Hair Removal

There are a number of devices on the market for laser hair removal. All of these use the principles of selective photothermolysis to deliver energy to the hair follicle, disabling or destroying it. Most of these target the melanin (color) in the hair follicles.

The SKIN Spa uses the Sciton Profile ClearScan™, laser machine. It is a non-invasive, long-lasting, virtually pain free solution for unwanted hair on all body parts and any skin type, including ethnic and dark complexions. Additionally, the Sciton laser can safely treat sun-tanned skin, thus making it the treatment of choice for active individuals.

This laser targets your hair follicles and heats them with infrared energy. The absorbed light heats the hair structures, which damages the existing hair and destroys the re-growth potential of the follicle - all without damaging the surrounding normal tissue. Unlike other processes, this laser treats many hairs at once, making treatment of large areas possible.

The many different settings allow us to customize laser hair removal treatment according to the particular body area to be treated and hair and skin type of the individual patient for the safest and best possible results. The procedure is fast, and there are few, if any, side effects.

Note* Because hair grows in stages, approximately 6 treatments, performed between 3-5 weeks apart, are usually required to achieve optimum results.

Profile ClearScan Vascular Laser Therapy
Spider/varicose veins, Rosacea, redness, Telangiectasia, and more

Laser therapy is a proven treatment for treating unsightly broken and dilated vessels, as well as such other unwanted vascular lesions as Rosacea, broken capillaries, and other vascular issues. In fact, the latest advances in laser technology have given us a method for removal that is safer, faster, and more effective than previous methods. ClearScan is a new laser using infrared energy and the new standard for the treatment of many skin conditions. This laser allows your physician to precisely treat visible vessels, spider veins, telangiectasia, redness, lesions, and discoloration of your skin. Obvious vascular structures will be gently eliminated from the visible layers of your skin's surface. ClearScan has the ability to provide a treatment that is optimized to your skin condition. Unwanted lesions will be preferentially heated by the laser energy and become less noticeable, some will disappear; and pigmented lesions will greatly improve.

There is little to no discomfort, however this varies from patient to patient and depends on the depth of the treatment. There is no need for anesthesia and your physician will discuss your options to properly manage any discomfort from the treatment. Some temporary redness may be present in the area that has been treated, however, this should subside within a few hours. Your skin will have a pink or red color that will resolve over time. Because laser vein treatment works by causing the unwanted vein to break up and dissolve, resolution of the unwanted vein will take place over the course of several weeks. The most common side effect is bruising, or purpura around the treated area. This will resolve within days of the treatment. Your doctor can discuss any other risks of laser surgery with you personally. You will need to avoid direct sun exposure, or use a sun block of at least SPF 15 when outdoors. The aesthetician can talk to you about a safe sunscreen.
Depending on the severity of the condition, multiple treatments may be required. Improvement generally lasts for several years, but over time new facial veins will develop, requiring a touch-up treatment at a later date.

Costs for each treatment session can range from $150 to $500 and will be determined at the time of your consultation with the physician. You will also be presented with the option of a customized package price if necessary.

Botox® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic (botulinum toxin) is a solution that is a purified protein. It is used as an injection under the skin surface, in a spa or office setting, to temporarily weaken the muscle and reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. As you know, muscles surrounding your eyes tighten multiple times during the day. The tightening of these muscles eventually leaves creases or wrinkles on the skin. Injecting small doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic directly into these muscles through a tiny needle allows the muscles to relax, and temporarily reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Patients may experience a slight discomfort when the needle is inserted, but this is very brief, lasting only a few seconds. The procedure itself takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, and most patients can return to their daily activities after treatment. The improvements in the wrinkles of the face begin to appear 3 days after the injection and achieve the maximal effect after 7 days. Although patients vary in response, most wrinkles will not return for a period of three to five months following treatment, and in some cases longer. If you continue BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments regularly, its effectiveness may increase, and last up to eight months.

Is it safe? BOTOX Cosmetic is very safe and has been used in the United States for years to treat a number of medical problems including muscle spasticity, tremors, and voice disorders. Patients do not require allergic testing prior to treatment. Repeated injections are very safe and patients will not develop a resistance over time. Patients can also decide to delay treatments or stop completely at any time.

Photo Rejuvenation Broad Band Light Therapy; BBL
The “Lunchtime Laser" treatment

Lunchtime Laser treatment is a quick, easy procedure in which many patients can come in during their lunch hour. The skin is not subjected to harsh chemicals or the intense after-care of other facial rejuvenation procedures. Cooling technology protects the sensitive surface layers of the skin, allowing the laser light to penetrate to a deeper level and stimulate new collagen growth.

Your physician will use ThermaScan to treat wrinkles around the eyes, lips, face and neck, and other skin blemishes with minimal discomfort. Over time, the wrinkles and texture on your face will soften, as a result, and the youthful appearance of your skin will be restored.
This Lunchtime Laser treatment uses an infrared laser to rejuvenate your skin from the inside out. The laser is applied to the skin, allowing the laser light to pass harmlessly through the upper layers of the skin and stimulate those cells deep below the surface which produce natural collagen. The collagen and elastin fibers continue to multiply after your treatment, and you will continue to see improved results for several months.

The procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes, and there are virtually no side effects. A topical anesthetic cream can be used on extra-sensitive areas, but is usually not necessary. No injections are needed. Those who wear facial cosmetics can reapply their makeup right away, and carry on with their day. There is no downtime. You will be sensitive to sun light and you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed so you must use a sunscreen that you and your aesthetician agree on.
Clinical studies suggest that at least two treatments are needed to stimulate new collagen growth. Doctors also recommend regular touch-up treatments to sustain the continued growth of new collagen. As for side effects, Lunchtime lasers procedures and light treatments are among the safest on the market.

The cost will be determined during the consultation between you and the physician. Generally will be between $200.00 and $400.00 per treatment.

Microlaser Peel

Now you can have younger looking, tighter feeling, and more vibrant skin with a popular new treatment called the Contour™ MicroLaserPeel™. The MicroLaserPeel treats skin conditions associated with aging and active life styles. It is the ideal treatment if you want improved skin with immediate lasting results, little time off, no discomfort, or post-treatment care. It is a minimal to full epidermal laser peel that removes the outermost layers of the skin. The procedure is individually tailored to the nature of the problem you want corrected: wrinkles, scars, keratoses, or pigmentation problems.

The cost will be determined by the level of microns you and the physician agree to. Generally, microdermabrasion only removes the outer layer (stratum corneum, 10-15 microns) of the skin. Patients may become dissatisfied when the perceived results do not equal the expense and the number of procedures required. Because this procedure goes deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step between microdermabrasion and deeper peels. The MicroLaserPeel is a minimal to full epidermal peel (20-50 microns)

You will start with a consultation with the physician and the aesthetician. At that time, a topical anesthetic such as Lidacane, or equivalent and an ointment such as Polysporin will be prescribed. The anesthetic will need to be applied 30 minutes before your appointment time and the Polysporin will be used the 2 days following your peel, this will act as a barrier to keep the air away from your skin while you grow new epithelium. After those two days, a moisturizer may be used. You will be meeting with the aesthetician to recommend the moisturizer best for your new fresh skin. The healing process varies from patient to patient but will generally take from two to four days. Immediately following the procedure, you will feel as if you have bad sunburn. You will have minor sloughing and itchiness the following day. By day two, redness will begin to fade and by day three, any redness can be easily covered by makeup. The procedure can be performed on Thursday or Friday and you can return to work the following Monday. It is the ideal weekend treatment.

Finally, while meeting with the aesthetician you will schedule an exfoliating facial to remove the remaining dead skin. At this time, the aesthetician will do a final follow up with you regarding your MicroLaserPeel.
